2019 Highlands Ranch Oktoberfest Celebration

Whether you love the traditional German beer, food, or other festivities, Oktoberfest offers something for everyone. If you want to participate in this year’s Highlands Ranch Oktoberfest Celebration and/or the HRCA Oktoberfest 5K, then read on for details!

Oktoberfest Celebration and 5K

The Highlands Ranch Community Association (HRCA) sponsors this annual event. As part of their mission, they seek to provide the city of Highlands Ranch with interesting recreational activities, including this fabulous Oktoberfest celebration.

The Party

Highlands Ranch’s Oktoberfest Celebration takes place at Town Center South on September 21 from 2:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. Celebrate the cultural event highlighting German food, music, dance, and (of course) beer!

The festival begins with a keg tapping to signal the official start of the Oktoberfest celebration. Catch a performance of charming German folk dancing, complete with colorful costumes and traditional music. Grab a bite of authentic German cuisine at food tents featuring favorites like Bavarian pretzels, roast pork, potato dumplings, and lots of sauerkraut.

If you love dogs, then the highlight of this festival will definitely be the delightful Dachshund races. The races begin at 3:00 p.m., and you’ll be amazed at the speed of these adorable pups! In addition to crowning a race champion, the “Best Dressed Dachshund” will receive a prize.

At 6:30 p.m., you can check out the 200-year-old German Oktoberfest tradition of stein hoisting. Watch as serious competitors attempt to hold a full, one-liter beer stein straight out, parallel to the ground, for as long as possible.

The festival also features great live music (both traditional German performances and a local rock band), rides, magicians, and balloon artists.

The Race

Grab your lederhosen and your best pair of running shoes! The HRCA Oktoberfest 5K begins at 9:00 a.m. on September 21 at Town Center South. The course is suitable for racers of all ages and abilities, with a combination of paved, gravel, and dirt surfaces. Racers will start on Dorchester Street before moving through local neighborhoods, as well as the Foothills and Diamond K trails, to finish back at Town Center South.

The well-marked course will have a hydration station available at Kistler Park. Runners (and walkers) are welcome to bring pets and strollers to this event. However, these participants are asked to begin in the back of the crowd as a safety precaution. Keep your eyes peeled for a blue kettlebell along the course as you run. The racer who finds it and brings it to the finish line will receive $100!

Registration is $55 on the day of the event. Register between 7:30 a.m. and 8:45 a.m. Runners receive a race t-shirt, a custom race bib, all-you-can-eat pancakes, and free beer (for runners over the age of 21). A post-race party features a pancake breakfast courtesy of Flippin’ Flapjacks and beer from Living the Dream Brewery.
