Nature and History Come Together at Highlands Ranch Mansion

Just a short trip down the road in Highlands Ranch, Colorado, is the sweeping Highlands Ranch Mansion and Historic Park. Sitting on 250 acres of scenic Colorado land, this mansion boasts a rich history of ranching and ownership by various cattle barons, oil tycoons, and business leaders. Take some time out to discover the beautiful views and fascinating history behind this hidden gem.

The Mansion

Still a working ranch, the Mansion is open to the public for tours. Take a free, one-hour guided tour to learn about how the original stone house slowly expanded to include a variety of rooms such as a solarium, carriage house, master suite, library, and even a card room built to host late-night games. Guided tour reservations are not required, but guests are welcome to fill out a tour request online to ensure a volunteer guide is available.

Self-guided tours are also free for those guests who wish to take their time surveying the beautifully landscaped grounds and intricate details. Don’t forget to take notice of the arched doorways, castle-like architecture, and panoramic views of the Colorado high plains!

The Mansion is typically open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays each month, as well as one or two Monday and Wednesday evenings from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. The website also has a calendar available to check open tour times.

Historic Park

Surrounding the Mansion, the Historic Park features 50 acres of land to enjoy. Discover the ranch’s bunkhouse, corrals, and timeless barns that serve as a reminder of Colorado’s western heritage. Guests can access the 1.4 acres of trails that connect to the Highlands Ranch Metro District trail system. With plans to expand the park to a full 250 acres, there is plenty of ground for everyone to explore.

The Historic Park is open daily from 5 a.m. to 8 p.m. This includes the Mansion’s front lawn and landscaped grounds. The website’s calendar is updated to notify guests of any closures due to private events.
